Now in its 24th season our Gift to the Community series continues to feature some of the world's most exciting young artists. Four performers from previous seasons won 1st prize at the coveted Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and 10 series performers have been awarded highly competitive Avery Fisher Career Grants. This season the three artists will astound you with their unique creativity and incomparable technique.

Daniel McGrew, tenor

Praised for his “lovely, nuanced tenor” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), Daniel McGrew is an active performer of a broad range of repertoires spanning opera, musical theatre, early, and new musics.

Daniel was the First Prize Winner of the 2021 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions, where he also received the St. Vincent College Concert Prize and the University of Florida Performing Arts Prize. In the summer of 2021, Daniel was in residence for the second time at the Marlboro Music Festival. He has also performed at the Tanglewood Music Festival and participated in the annual Festival of Contemporary Music. 

Daniel holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Yale University. He recently completed his doctoral studies at the University of Michigan.

Lun Li, violin

A native of Shanghai, China, violinist Lun Li won First Prize in the 2021 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions, as well as The Paul A. Fish Memorial Prize and The Buffalo Chamber Music Society Prize, and was named John French Violin Chair at YCA. Traveling between Shanghai and Philadelphia has brought him experience and honor including performances at the Marlboro Music Festival, Music@Menlo, Music from Angel Fire, and Verbier Festival Academy. 

Lun recently graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music with a bachelor’s degree under the tutelage of Ida Kavafian, and was a recipient of the Jean J. Sterne fellowship. Lun is now pursuing a master’s degree at the Juilliard School with Catherine Cho and Joseph Lin.

Zhu Wang, piano

Pianist Zhu Wang has been honored by many international awards including first prize at the 2nd Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians, and special prizes in the 5th International Chopin Young Artist Piano Competition and in the 16th Asian Chopin International Piano Competition in Japan. At Juilliard he won the Juilliard Gina Bachauer International Scholarship Piano Competition and received Mieczyslaw Munz Scholarship. Zhu has been a featured soloist on WQXR’s Young Artist Showcase and WFMT’s Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts.
